James Bernsen is a former journalist and public relations professional. After 9/11, he joined the US Navy as an intelligence officer. A veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, James used his GI bill to obtain a masters in history from Texas State University in 2016, focusing on early 19th Century American and Texas history. His first book, The Lost War for Texas tells the true story of Texas’ forgotten first Revolution of 1811-13, which took place 25 years before the Alamo. He has taught history at Texas A&M-San Antonio and is published in the Southwestern Historical Quarterly, Handbook of Texas Online, East Texas Historical Journal and other journals.
