Tastes of Tradition: Celebrating Culture Through Food
1:15 PM - 2:00 PM
Saturday, November 16
Central Market Cooking Tent
Two debut cookbook authors, Marisel Salazar and Khushbu Shah, twist tradition with infectious energy and irresistible flavor in this session celebrating culture through food. Salazar’s Latin-Ish: More Than 100 Recipes Celebrating American Latino Cuisines is organized by cook and prep times, making it easy to follow along with each step as recipes, such as Guava Cream Cheese Cinnamon Rolls and Arkansas Tamales, travel across the expanse of the country. In Amrikan: 125 Recipes from the Indian American Diaspora, Shah makes pantry staples and detailed tips and tricks accessible and inviting, presenting dishes like Spinach Tadka Dal and Saag Paneer Lasagna in pleasantly surprising ways. At the heart of both books is a uniquely diasporic touch, as modern American styles blend with Latin and Indian dishes beloved for centuries.
