Poetry Tent

A collection of poems traversing the "distance and intimacy, momentum and stillness, and all the inheritances and surprises of still being" in the complex, multifaceted state of Texas, Texas, Being brings together over 45 poets into one diverse book. Edited by 2017 Poet Laureate of Texas Jenny Browne, this set of poems gets at the heart of what it's like to live in Texas: wonderful, and violent; deeply connective, and devastatingly isolating. Ranging from narrative to abstract, these poems reflect the contradictions and connections within a state as vast and varied as it is generally seen as one-dimensional and static. In this session, Browne is joined by poets Carrie Fountain, Cecily Parks and ire'ne lara silva, all of whom have poems included in this collection, to speak on the beauty, brutality, mundanities, and memories of this state they call home.
