Saturday, November 16
Capitol Extension Room: E2.012 (1100 Congress Ave., Austin, TX 78701)
Join authors Jeffrey Dale Lofton and Jiaming Tang for a poignant discussion on queer love, resilience, and belonging in their formidable debut novels. In Red Clay Suzie, Lofton tells the moving story of Philbet, a gay boy with a disability growing up in the Deep South, who discovers unexpected sources of strength and love amidst bullying and rejection. Tang’s Cinema Love follows the lives of two immigrants from rural China to New York City’s Chinatown, blending a queer love story with an exploration of caregiving, assimilation, and the legacies of the past. Despite very different settings, both novels offer heartwarming and heart-wrenching perspectives on love, identity, and survival across time and place.
