Poetry Tent

Fragmented across space, language, and self, Cindy Juyoung Ok and Sara Daniele Rivera write toward healing in their debut poetry collections. Selected by Rae Armantrout for the 2023 Yale Series of Younger Poets, Ok's Ward Toward moves through both narrative and physical space on the page with equal playfulness and intense precision, uncovering belonging as she turns an analytical eye to mental illness, nostalgia, and community. In Rivera's award-winning debut, The Blue Mimes, visceral memory and weighted grief written in rhythmic detail plunge us into ourselves and connect us with what surrounds us. Central to the books is an exploration of the ways in which we survive, constrained by institutions, physically separated from loved ones, or disconnected from identity and language. In this session, Ok and Rivera will give a reading from their books and discuss how it is through sharing with each other that we learn to survive and endure.
