Texas' landscape is vast, home to thousands of acres of state parks lush with plant and animal life. But climate change and capitalism have become an increasing threat to our natural resources over the years. This struggle is at the heart of Monika Maeckle's The Monarch Butterfly Migration: Its Rise and Fall and Laura Raun's Andrew Samson: A Life in Conservation, two unique stories of conservation. Maeckle, a journalist and butterfly advocate, investigates the claim that monarch butterflies are in danger of extinction, placing a wide lens on advocacy, scientific accuracy, and our own observations of nature. Detailing the significant life of well-known Texas conservationist Andrew Sansom, Raun offers inspiration and lessons as she covers Sansom’s contributions to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and his deep connection to nature. Join these authors in conversation about the state of conservation in Texas, and what we can do to preserve the natural wonders of the state.
