Leslie Nguyen-Okwu is the author of the forthcoming memoir American Hyphen, which explores the rocky terrain of racism, as a first-generation Vietnamese Nigerian American navigates the fissures and fault lines between Black America and Asian America. As the proud daughter of refugees, she writes about the liminal spaces between borders and belonging. Her career as a foreign correspondent covering displacement, statelessness, and contested homelands informs her storytelling. Leslie’s bylines include The New York Times, BBC, National Geographic, The Economist, and Harper’s Bazaar. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Stanford University and studied in the Master’s program in Public Policy at Harvard University.
