Dr. Claire Hagen Alvarado is the Director of Literacy First, an organization that teaches young children how to read in Spanish and English through high-impact tutoring. As a former teacher, reading specialist, and district leader, Dr. Hagen Alvarado has spent the last two decades working in the field of reading education. She earned her Master of Education in Language and Literacy Studies from The University of Texas at Austin and her Education Leadership Doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Prior to joining Literacy First, she served as Language Arts Supervisor for the Austin Independent School District and as the Statewide Early Childhood Fellow for the Texas Education Agency. Dr. Hagen Alvarado has a passion for growing multilingual readers and her favorite children’s book is Niño Wrestles the World by Yuyi Morales.
