Avrel Seale is the author of 12 books, including memoir, humor, philosophy, history, religion, and unsolved mystery. In 2018, at age 50, Seale had a major hemorrhagic stroke that took away the use of his dominant hand among other things. His story of survival and adaptation, With One Hand Tied Behind My Brain: A Memoir of Life After Stroke, was published in 2020. His one-handed guitar playing was featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. The River Nuts: Down the Nueces with One Stroke, was published by TCU Press in 2023. Seale has spent the majority of his career as a writer and editor at The University of Texas at Austin. He and his wife, Kirstin, have three sons.
