Adela Pineda Franco is a scholar and essayist specializing in the intersections of literature, film, and politics in Latin American and transatlantic studies. She holds the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Chair in Latin American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she also directs the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS).
Her major works include Geopolíticas de la cultura finisecular, Steinbeck y México, and The Mexican Revolution on the World Stage. She has been a visiting professor at institutions such as the University of Rennes, Brown University, and BUAP, and has received awards including the U.S.-Mexico Fund for Culture and the Malcolm Lowry Literary Essay Prize.
She currently leads the Mellon-funded project Pido la palabra: A Texas Prison Literature Project for Social Justice and the Literary Imagination.
