Poetry Reading & Discussion: José Antonio Rodríguez & Joaquín Zihuatanejo

Poetry Tent
Challenging the way we define and relate to identity, José Antonio Rodríguez and Dallas Poet Laureate Joaquín Zihuatanejo transform the borderlands with The Day's Hard Edge and Occupy Whiteness. Rodríguez's collection moves through queer Chicano experience and shared community, highlighting poetry's necessity and, at times, limits. In his hybrid collection that includes photographs from the border, Zihuatanejo occupies white space with erasure poems, reclaiming colonized space and illuminating Brown history. Bold and uneasy, history informs the poems within both books and intermingles each poet's respective voice with those of the past. Join Rodríguez and Zihuatanejo for a reading and discussion of their investigative collections.
