Paula Yoo is an award-winning book author of 12 fiction and nonfiction books for children and YA. Her latest YA nonfiction book, Rising From the Ashes: Los Angeles, 1992. Edward Jae Song Lee, Latasha Harlins, Rodney King, and a City on Fire (Norton Young Readers 2024) has received five starred reviews and is a 2024 Junior Library Guild Gold Standard selection. Her previous YA nonfiction book From a Whisper to a Rallying Cry: The Killing of Vincent Chin and the Trial That Galvanized the Asian American Movement (Norton Young Readers 2021) was longlisted for the National Book Award and won the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, including being a finalist for the YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction Honor and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, among other awards. Paula is also a TV writer/producer who has written for 12 shows from NBC’s The West Wing to The CW’s Supergirl and has sold several TV pilots and is also a professional violinist. She is a proud member of the Writers Guild of America and the AFM Local 47 Musicians’ unions. Paula lives in Los Angeles with her family and three cats.
