Schachner, illustrator and writer of children's books since 1992, is the recipient of many awards. Skippyjon Jones won the first E. B. White Read Aloud Book Award. She lives in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania with her Siamese cat, Skippy, who served as inspiration for the Skippyjon Jones character.
