 Owen Egerton
In the new age of parenting, men are taking decidedly more active roles. Enter: the Dadlabs' Dadlabs Guide to Fatherhood: Pregnancy and Year One. Dadlabs is four writers who've come together to dish on daddyhood in a fresh and realistic way (their slogan is, "We screwed up, so you don’t have to. Just ask our wives"). With the Dadlabs Guide, we’re finally offered a batch of solid advice on what not to say to a hormonally challenged female and given proper etiquette for the obstetrician's office. This is a real hands-on survival guide for dads new and old, wherever they may be along the perilous and miraculous journey of bringing a child into the world (complete with an index!). Flip to page 58, for example, to discover "Ten Things Never to Say to Your Pregnant Partner" or to decide if the name you've chosen for your precious bundle passes the "Pre-K Shakedown Test." Read about how much a child costs in "man currency," i.e., how much you could be spending on televisions, barbecue grills, golf clubs, or a new Harley instead of spending money on your baby. The book is filled with "Dad Rants" such as, "I was totally supportive of my wife's decision to have a natural childbirth, right up to the part where she gave birth naturally." Owen Egerton, a.k.a. "Daddy Owen," is the creator of the Dadlabs online show "Daditude" and serves as a writer and star. He has authored a collection of short stories, a novel, screenplays and essays. He has an MFA from Texas State University and lives in Austin, with his wife and two children.
